Linus Carl Pauling

Two Time Nobel Prize Winner and Father of Vitamin C

Linus Carl Pauling, dubbed the father of vitamin C, is one of Boost Daily Vitamins favourite nutrition and health experts.

Pauling was noted for taking large doses of vitamin C to cure the common cold. He discovered that Vitamin C did a whole host of other things.

Vitamin C is the most commonly taken vitamin supplement, with most people hoping that it will ward off colds and flu. Many families use vitamin C, especially chewables, on a daily basis.

Current research debates the preventative measures of Vitamin C for cold and flu, but at a minimum agrees that it does reduce the symptoms and duration of colds.

Linus Pauling's early reports on the success of megavitamin treatment for cancer were hugely criticized, even dismissed by the established medical community, but met with hope in the larger community, especially by cancer patients and their families.

Pauling's book Cancer and Vitamin C, co-authored with Ewan Cameron, was revolutionary at its time of publication.

Today, the debate continues in the medical research community over whether or not Vitamin C is a viable treatment in cancer, even as a complementary therapy with the conventional chemotherapy, radiation and surgical treatments.

Unfortunately, Dr. Pauling passed away in 1994, but his work is being carried on, notably in a book called Healing Cancer: Complementary Vitamin & Drug Treatments , which was being edited for publication when he died. Healing Cancer was authored by Dr. Abram Hoffer with Dr. Linus Pauling.

In the preface to the book, Dr. Hoffer praises Pauling as

..."the most productive humanitarian scientist this world has ever seen. As a biochemist, peace activist, and orthomolecular scientist, his work was dedicated to discovering the molecular nature of man, ensuring the survival of our species, and preventing and treating disease — in sum, improving the quality of life."

Dr. Linus Pauling received two Nobel Prizes, one for chemistry and one for peace. He was 93 when he died.
